Concert CEO Vrouwenkoor: Vrouwenstemmen

Everyone is familiar with some famous classical composers – names like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach are well known. However, do you also know a female composer?

For a long time, the story of Western music history, as in many other fields, was dominated by the male perspective. Names like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach are known to all. But do you also know female composers? Fortunately, there are more than enough of them, and they wrote beautiful music!

This programme features a number of mostly contemporary compositions written by women, for women. Works of today, on timeless themes: nature, love, poetry, and eternity.
Notable is the work of Sarah Quartel, which describes the life journey of the archetypal woman, in an English translation of the ancient Finnish texts of the Kalevala. Dutch composers are also featured: Liselotte Westerterp and Sylvia Maessen wrote special miniatures with a wonderfully expressive sound. 

The choir performs its programme in collaboration with Jelena Bazova on piano and with young talents from the  Nieuwe Veste: Lars Roording, winner of the Jan de Breet Music Prize, on euphonium  and Stijn Roording on trombone. 

The CEO Women’s Choir is a continuation of chamber choir Cappella ex Occasione. Since spring 2024, it has been led by Sil van den Hout. Tickets are available online or can be purchased at the box office of Zandberg58 prior to the concert.
