On Friday, 4 July, Clean up on Tour arrives in Breda. This nationwide initiative from the Watersportverbond encourages residents, visitors, and watersport enthusiasts to get out on the water and remove litter from Breda’s waters — armed with a SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) and a healthy dose of motivation.
Anyone aged 18 or over can participate for free in this special cleanup. You’ve never stood up paddling before? No problem: professional guidance ensures you’ll get on the water safely and relaxed.

Litter with a story
During previous editions of Clean up on Tour, all kinds of items were retrieved from the water — from bicycles and shopping carts to old radios and forgotten beach balls. In 2024 alone, 2,700 kilograms were collected. Each location contributes to a national ranking, where the collected kilos are weighed and registered.
With the singels as green arteries and the Nieuwe Mark flowing through the centre, Breda shows how water and city can seamlessly come together. It’s a place where people relax, exercise and enjoy — on and along the water. But that vibrancy also brings litter. Clean up on Tour helps Breda by working with local participants to make the water cleaner and the city more liveable.
