Special Effects Artist Xander Forterie will tell you everything about bringing fairy-tale animals, monsters, and magical figures to life on the big screen.

About the film
Pan's Labyrinth, by the Mexican fantasy filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (The Devil's Backbone, Hellboy), is about a girl who loses herself in a dark dream world. Spain 1944: Girl Ofelia is stuck, along with her pregnant mother, with an evil stepfather. But then she encounters a faun who takes her to a magical underworld. 

About Xander Forterie 
Xander Forterie (Special Effects by XFFX) is a Dutch Special Effects artist with over twenty years of experience. He has contributed to iconic productions such as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Thor: The Dark World, and Stranger Things. With experience in, among other things, prosthetics, special effects makeup application, foam latex techniques, lifecasting, sculptures, prosthetic applications, and even puppet making, he is an expert in his field.

After the screening, Xander will talk about the technical processes and the skills behind the practical effects in Pan's Labyrinth.
