About the documentary The documentary Batik, Beats &amp; Bumbu follows young Dutch artists whose (great-)parents grew up in the Dutch East Indies. They actively seek collaborations with their colleagues in Indonesia. After the film, there will be a discussion with director Claire Pijman. Indonesia was a colony of the Netherlands for over 350 years.&nbsp;After World War II, around 350,000 Indo-Dutch people returned to their 'home country', where they silently tried to build a new life. The first generation mainly wanted to integrate quietly and is the last to have experienced the Dutch East Indies firsthand. The second generation relies on the nostalgia of their parents and acts as a bridge between the first and subsequent generations, between the Netherlands and Indonesia. The third generation is curious about their cultural heritage and the land of their ancestors, and searches for what has been passed down and what it means today.&nbsp;Director Claire Pijman follows a new generation of creators who shape a shared cultural past in their own way. In collaboration with artists from Indonesia, a story unfolds about identity, exchange, and reinterpreting what has been passed on.
