Carel Kraayenhof Quartet & Nuala McKenna - Bach in Buenos Aires
Information
The Carel Kraayenhof Quartet and cellist Nuala McKenna proudly present Bach in Buenos Aires: an enchanting performance in which the fiery Argentine tango merges with the timeless music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
For McKenna, who as a child was already fascinated by the music of Astor Piazzolla, a long-held dream comes true: playing with one of Europe's best tango ensembles. At the same time, the musicians of the quartet are drawn into a special dialogue with Bach, inspired by Nuala’s sound world.
The unique style of Piazzolla, in which classical music, tango and jazz meet, has been touching music lovers worldwide for decades. His energetic and melancholic compositions transcend style, place and time – recognizable, captivating and universal.
During this performance, works by, among others, Piazzolla, Bach, Kurt Weill and Carel Kraayenhof himself will be played. Pianist Juan-Pablo Dobal, born and raised in Argentina, specially composed a new piece for this programme that uniquely connects the musical worlds of tango and classical.
Bach in Buenos Aires is a musical journey full of emotion, virtuosity and surprising encounters.
