Brilliantly adapted by Oscar-winning director Miloš Forman and screenwriter Michael Weller (Ragtime), this lively film version of the Broadway phenomenon ranks among the greatest musical films of all time.
 
In Hair, John Savage plays the lead role of Claude, a calm young man from the Midwest who befriends a group of hippies from New York. They are concerned about the Vietnam War and resist the suffocating grip of society. The group fights for peace, love, and above all, total freedom. A life without laws and rules, without taboos and clothes – but with a war creeping behind their necks – raises the question of whether they can realise that ideal.
 
The film features the most famous songs from the original stage production, including the chart-topping hits Aquarius, Good Morning Starshine, and Let the Sunshine In.

Prior to the screenings, Deborah Jacobs (Deb) performs Acoustic Hair &amp; Hippie Hour. Deborah Jacobs has sifted through her extensive, eclectic repertoire to find the hippie songs and has added some specially for this occasion!

Filmhuis Botanique opens this BuitenBios season spectacularly with the '70s flowerpower classic Hair, a celebration of freedom, love, and the human spirit. The film, which caused quite a stir at the time, is a tribute to the spirit of the sixties.
