City of God is the name of a favela built in the sixties to house the poor of Rio de Janeiro and to move them out of the rest of the city. In this neighbourhood, the two main characters grow up: the violent and cunning Zé chooses a life in street gangs and drug trafficking, while the somewhat shy Rocket tries to escape by becoming a photographer.

The film ranks 25th on the IMDb top list of the best films of all time.
