Bredata Talk of the Town: Femtech

Discover the world of femtech, inclusive data, and digital health at Talk of the Town in Breda. Engaging for everyone shaping the future together.

Information

In this edition of Talk of the Town, you will delve into the world of femtech with entrepreneurs, thinkers, policymakers, and medical professionals. What is the promise – and what are the risks?

Imagine: an app that tells you exactly when you’re ovulating, predicts your cycle, and even maps your mood. For millions of women, this is already a reality. Femtech – technology focused on women's health – is growing rapidly. From period- and menopause-related apps to smart diagnostics and digital personalised care.

But with this growth come challenging questions. Who is actually developing these technologies? What happens to the intimate data we input? And who benefits from this digital progress: the user, the doctor, or the tech company?

Femtech also generates more data about women. And this contributes to data inclusivity; not just data from predominantly men, but also from women. And this is much needed.

What societal opportunities are missed because men are used as the default? Time for digital inclusion, also from a female perspective. Breda has the noble ambition to become the most digitally inclusive city.

Since 2022, Bredata, an initiative of the municipality of Breda, has been organising the Talk of the Town: discussions with experts about the impact of digitisation on our society. This evening, the focus is on technology, women’s health, more inclusive data, and the question of how we can maintain control over our data and our bodies.
