The perspective of landscape architect Steven Delva: Water as a driver for urban quality
Water plays a crucial role in the spatial identity of Breda. The city is built around the canals and the river Mark, and with the ambition to be a City in a Park, the significance of water as a structuring and connecting element only grows.

At the same time, Breda faces major challenges: by 2040, 25,000 new homes will be added, and the energy transition, mobility transition, sustainability, and climate commitments all require space.

Could water in the city be the driving force behind a new urban quality?

Landscape architect Steven Delva (DELVA Architecture & Urbanism) shares his inspiring vision of Breda’s green-blue future during a special edition of the BLAStcafé. From his offices in Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Oslo, Delva (Architect of the Year 2021) is working on plans for the Chasséveld and the Dome. During his lecture, he will show how water in public spaces can contribute to a livable, future-proof city. The discussion host is Leon van Geest.
