BLAStcafé - New Perspectives

Climate change, the housing challenge, social inequality and a changing living environment call for new ways of looking.

Design-led research helps to clarify complex issues, explore alternatives and make new perspectives visible before decisions are made.  

During New Perspectives, BLASt brings together four designers who each demonstrate from a different angle how design-led research works. Two studies from the Action Programme for Spatial Design (ARO) are linked to two recent graduation projects by young designers. Placing practical experience alongside a fresh perspective creates a conversation about the power of the design profession.  

From regional urbanisation challenges to the human scale of safety and privacy: the projects show how design can contribute to social challenges as well as to imagining possible futures.

After short presentations, the designers will discuss the themes with one another and with the audience. This evening is part of the ‘Design Craft’ programme strand, in which BLASt explores how designers work, which tools they use and what significance the design profession has for today’s and tomorrow’s spatial challenges.

The discussions will be led by Teun van den Ende, founder of Werkplaats Erfgoed.
