Black Flower at MEZZ
Black Flower brings a blend of Ethio‑jazz, afrobeat, and dub, with influences from various music cultures.
Information
Black Flower is known for rolling drums, herders' flutes, psychedelic sounds, and breathing melodies, blending genres and traditions. Led by saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Daems, they continually surpass themselves.
Inspired by the way Balkan music develops basslines and chord progressions over Turkish melodies, they find ways to connect Ethiopian music with both European and Arabic music theory.
The band has collaborated with The Gaslamp Killer and can be found on various international compilations.
Their live performances are described as synergistic, groovy, exciting, enchanting, and hypnotic.
