Augustus Carillon Month

Summer evenings in Breda become magical with the weekly carillon concert at the Grote Toren. Every Thursday evening in August from 19:00, live carillon music can be enjoyed. A varied programme featuring a different carillonneur each week.

The Klokkenluidersgilde Breda sets the tone with a festive introduction from 18:45 before each concert.  

The concerts are being held to mark 500 years of the Breda city carillonneur and are held in the centre of Breda. 

These carillonneurs perform during Carillon Month:

• 6 August – Paul Maassen
  Breda’s city carillonneur Paul Maassen, from the fourth generation of Maassens on the Grote Toren, demonstrates how carillon music has developed over the past 150 years.
• 13 August – Jeroen Heijungs
  Organist, harpsichordist and carillonneur Jeroen Heijungs brings to life the music from the first 150 years of Breda’s carillon tradition at the Grote Toren.
• 20 August – Gijsbert Kok
  Gijsbert Kok, the city carillonneur of The Hague, takes you on a journey through five centuries of carillon music via the bells of the Grote Toren. 
  Including a soirée in the Begijnhof with a live ensemble. More information to follow.
• 27 August – Julia Littleton
  The American carillonneur Julia Littleton concludes the series with a musical journey through 500 years of carillon history.
