Information

During Animazing, it's all about anime, manga, and animated films at Chassé Cinema. In collaboration with Nieuwe Veste library and Kaboom Animation Festival.

This time, the film Steamboy is being screened, a spectacular steampunk film about preventing revolutionary technology from being used for the wrong purposes.

About the film:
In a steampunk version of England, James Ray Steam receives a mysterious globe-shaped device that his father and grandfather accidentally discovered while searching for a new energy source for England's steam engines.

James is increasingly pursued by members of the opposing O'Hara Foundation and uncovers the sinister aims of the Foundation. He is also confronted by Scarlett O'Hara St Johns, the granddaughter of the chairman of the O'Hara Foundation, who seems to like him.

Steamboy was Katsuhiro Otomo's first feature film after Akira (1988). Originally intended as three original video animation episodes of 40 minutes each, Steamboy remained in production for ten years and was, at the time, the most expensive Japanese animated film ever made.

Although the film was not a huge success upon release, it has gained a large fanbase over the years, and its themes of industrialisation, pollution, and techno-critique have become increasingly relevant over time.
