7 tips to get the most out of Blind Walls Film Fest in Breda

  • Blind Walls Gallery
  • Chassé Cinema
  • Festival
Blind Walls Film Fest is the film festival where street art, urban culture, and film come together. From 4th February to 8th February, discover documentaries, lectures, exhibitions, and LIVE murals at Chassé Cinema. An ideal cultural day trip in Breda and equally interesting for Bredan residents looking for a cultural activity.

1. Thursday evening: Disobedience Night – rules are made to be broken

As it gets dark, Blind Walls Film Fest pushes to the edges of the city. During Disobedience Night, you watch films in which artists consciously push the boundaries and reclaim public space. Urban Disobedience Toolkit (19:00) demonstrates how Prague is used as a playground for creative disruption, while The Art of Disobedience (21:00) takes you into the adrenaline of rooftops, tunnels, and a worldwide manhunt for the mysterious graffiti artist Geco. Art or vandalism? This evening forces you to choose... or not.

2. Friday evening: Underground, illegal and invisible

Friday evening, Blind Walls Film Fest delves into urban myths. The Underbelly Project (19:00) opens the door to a forbidden subway station beneath New York, where international top names secretly left behind art, right below a police station. Afterwards, Blaues Licht (21:00) takes you into a Berlin art hoax filled with vanished images, anonymous letters, and a filmmaker who becomes increasingly immersed underground. What begins as documentation ends as paranoia, performance, and pure urban tension.

3. Saturday: Dutch street art and local stories

Saturday at 14:00 Gemini Courts will tell the story of an art project with young people from the juvenile detention centre Den Hey-Acker in Breda. Two painted basketball courts symbolise connection, self-confidence and a new beginning. In the evening at 20:00, you can watch the preview of Streetart Frankey, a brand new documentary about the Amsterdam artist who makes the street scene more playful with clever interventions.

4. Sunday: Women on Walls – female street artists at the core

Sunday at 16:00, Women on Walls is entirely dedicated to female creators in the street art scene. Featuring short films, including Being Seen Makes Us Happy, and a in-depth panel discussion with Laxmi Manuela, artist duo VAAF, and Bredase Toscanabanana, it explores visibility, inequality, and representation. An important program that highlights why greater balance in street art is essential.

5. Educational Lectures on Thursday and Friday afternoons

Thursday at 14:00 Street Arts & Screen Smarts offers an in-depth session for everyone interested in the social impact of street art. Vladimír Turner demonstrates how small actions in public space raise significant questions about responsibility and citizenship. Jasper van Es explores how urban art translates into the digital domain.

Friday at 14:00 Beyond the Wall showcases how street art balances activism, city marketing, and power. Street art journalist Doug Gillen and curator Lutz Henke share sharp insights from an international perspective. At 16:00, the Triple Bill: Street Politics follows, featuring three short films that demonstrate how vulnerable yet influential art in public space can be, including a Q&A with local and international creators!

6. Especially for creators and artists: the Tasty Talent Lunch

The Tasty Talent Lunch is an informal gathering for makers, artists, and creative professionals. During the lunch, Iris van den Bersselaar and Phylos Donkertino share their experiences within the Blind Walls Talent Call program, where artists can participate each year from March onward for the chance to create their own mural and showcase their work in the Blind Walls Gallery office. You can also join a free portfolio review beforehand, where experienced professionals will evaluate your work. Participation is free, but registration is required.

In Fractured Frames, Blind Walls Talent Phylos Donkertino shows how ephemeral graffiti is given new life on canvas. At Studio Cromie (by Angelo Milano, winner of the audience award during the last edition), you can discover Italian street art
