Speelhuislaan
The Speelhuislaan derives its name from the Speelhuis, a hunting lodge built by the sons of William of Orange in the early 17th century in the then Belcrumbos. The Speelhuislaan was once a croquet lawn where a type of golf game was played. In the early 19th century, the Speelhuis was demolished and the Speelhuislaan was given its own railway line to connect the new industrial area around Belcrumhaven. The railway line is no longer in use and now forms the footpath where you walk beneath the festive lighting.
The benches along the avenue were designed by artist Anouk Vogel and all feature different bronze bases. Their shapes resemble branches or antlers and refer to the former hunting grounds.
