De Haagdijk

De Haagdijk, one of the oldest shopping streets in Breda. With a distinctive character and a clear link to Breda's rich history, the Haagdijk is colourful, bustling and diverse.

De Haagdijk, one of the oldest shopping streets in Breda, connected the city with Princenhage. In the past, houses here did not have numbers but names, such as 'De prinsenmantel' and 'Het rode hert'. You can still see these as new shop signs on the facades.

Historically, traders, breweries, and shipyards were located along the Haagdijk. Midway at Pelmolenstraat, there were small one-room houses for soldiers' families and a home for elderly single men. Today, you can find various specialist shops, eateries, and cafés with diverse cultural backgrounds along the Haagdijk.
