Taste the centuries-old history
In the 16th century, around the harbour, there were about forty breweries. A lot of beer was shipped via the Mark to cities like Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Antwerp. Beer was popular not only because it was tasty. It was healthier than water, which was often of poor quality. Today, you can find the bar of Breda's Big Belly brewery here. The brewers rediscovered the 16th-century recipe of 'Bredaas Wit' and made their own beer: 'De Baron'. So step inside Big Belly and taste the centuries-old history.
