Workshop on smartphone photography

In this basic workshop, you will get acquainted with the various components of smartphone photography. Naturally, the necessary theory (such as composition and lighting) will be covered, and the main functions on your smartphone will be explained – but you will also spend a lot of time practicing the acquired knowledge. You will therefore do many exercises during this workshop, both indoors and outdoors.

Depending on the weather, the exercises will be adjusted. In good weather, a longer photography walk will be organised in the city, and you will visit a few interesting photography locations (around the Nieuwe Veste area). Afterwards, the photos taken will be reviewed and discussed in the classroom – a part of the photography learning process that is both fun and educational.

In the final part of the workshop (last but not least), you will learn about photo editing. In the digital age, photo editing is indispensable, and the possibilities are numerous. Photo editing is not only about making the image more beautiful but also about making it look closer to how the human eye saw it. By the end of this workshop, you will have enough knowledge to take beautiful/more beautiful photos!

Who is the workshop suitable for?

Anyone who wants to improve their smartphone photography. Please note that this is a basic course. This workshop is not for people who are already advanced in smartphone photography.

What do you need?

For hardware, you only need a smartphone for the course; any type (iPhone, Android, Samsung, One+, Huawei, etc.) is fine. The age of your device does not matter, as long as it still works well. If your battery drains quickly, bring a power bank/external battery if you have one. Additionally, you will need pen and paper to take notes.

The instructor, Chi Hong, is a freelance photographer specialising in travel, documentary, and portrait photography. She has publications in various international media, such as Getty Images, National Geographic, and Lonely Planet.
