A theatrical experience to talk about....back at De Ruimte after 5 sold-out performances this spring. In UNDER YOUR EYE, visitors become part of a carefully created system of estrangement and rules. The audience is not a spectator, but a participant in a game between themselves, the creators and the other.

Information

The performance explores how promises, needs and psychological mechanisms encourage people to follow rather than think. Dynamics that are recognisable from history, but also from today’s world of social media and digital influence.

UNDER YOUR EYE makes tangible how systems can overwhelm us — and how each individual nevertheless has an influence on the whole.

The performance takes place at De Ruimte, a hidden gem in Breda, where visitors enter a theatrical setting that invites interaction.

Before and after the performance, De Ruimte’s kitchen team serves organic, vegetarian dinner bites. During the shared meal, guests can enjoy a convivial chat afterwards. Dinner is included in the ticket price.

The creative duo LEENSTRA&WIRKEN operates at the intersection of performance, theatre and social design. Their work can be described as an intimate ‘happening’ in which the audience meets one another in a shared universe that unsettles and activates. By shifting from spectator to participant, the audience is given the opportunity to give personal, authentic meaning to the experience. In 2025, LEENSTRA&WIRKEN were invited for a residency at De Ruimte, received a Creative Makers grant from the municipality of Breda for the first time, and successfully crowdfunded UNDER YOUR EYE.
