The New Diamonds - The story of The Blue Diamonds

The Blue Diamonds conquered the world in the 1960s with their distinctive sound and the hit Ramona. Now, decades later, Steffen de Wolff and Patrick Drabe as The New Diamonds are paying a musical tribute to Riem and Ruud de Wolff. What started as a one-off tribute has grown into a theatre tour across the Netherlands.

Information

Riem and Ruud de Wolff formed the duo The Blue Diamonds. These brothers, of Dutch-Indonesian descent, achieved worldwide fame in 1960 with their hit Ramona. In the early 1960s, they enjoyed hit successes and embarked on successful tours of Indonesia alongside Anneke Grönloh. In November 2000, Riem and Ruud de Wolff performed for the last time as The Blue Diamonds. At that time, Ruud was already seriously ill and passed away at the age of 59. After his death, Riem fell into a deep depression. With the help of many fellow artists, he found the strength to pick himself up again. Together with them and his son Steffen, he released the album ‘Out Of The Blue’, produced by Patrick Drabe, under the name The New Diamonds. During this period, The New Diamonds also performed successfully twice at the Doelen in Rotterdam, until Riem passed away on September 12, 2017.

When the organiser of these concerts asks Steffen and Patrick years later to pay musical tribute to The Blue Diamonds one more time in February 2023, they do not think long about it. In response to the many positive reactions and offers that follow, Steffen and Patrick decide to breathe new life into The New Diamonds. With a tour through the Dutch theatres, musical heirs Steffen de Wolff and Patrick Drabe as The New Diamonds present a vibrant and more than justified musical tribute to these extraordinary Dutch-Indonesian brothers!
