Swell + Creatures of Loss in MEZZ

Three decades after their breakthrough, the music of Swell still sounds just as captivating. The original band members pay a special tribute to frontman David Freel, who passed away in 2022, and at the same time celebrate the rich musical heritage of the American indie rock band.

Swell was formed in 1989 in San Francisco by David Freel and Sean Kirkpatrick. With their unique blend of postpunk, folk, and cinematic soundscapes, the band grew to become a beloved name within the alternative music scene. Albums such as ...Well? and 41 are still regarded as classics within indie rock. They also shared stages with acts like Mazzy Star, The Flaming Lips, and Mercury Rev.
