Stereo MC’s at MEZZ
Information
Rob Birch and Nick Hallam grew up as neighbours and started out as Stereo MC's in the mid-1980s, inspired by early hip hop, funk and electronic music. After their debut, they toured with De La Soul, Living Colour and Happy Mondays. They also produced remixes for artists including U2, Madonna and Tricky. With ‘Deep Down & Dirty’ (2001), the band scored their fifth consecutive Top 20 hit.
The band emerged from London’s underground scene in the late 1980s. They recorded songs using a 4-track recorder in a flat in South London. They brought a breath of fresh air to British club culture by blending hip hop, dub, powerful lyrics, house, funk and electronic beats.
More than three decades after its release in 1992, the infectious groove of ‘Connected’ remains just as powerful. It reminds the world why the band is one of the most iconic dance acts in British music history. ‘Connected’ became a worldwide phenomenon. The album reached number two in the UK charts and earned the band two Brit Awards. It spawned a series of timeless singles that filled dance floors, including ‘Connected’, ‘Step It Up’, ‘Ground Level’ and ‘Creation’.
The anniversary tour brings the band’s distinctive rhythms and explosive live energy back to the stage. Rob Birch, Nick Hallam, Cath Coffey and Tansay Omar bring the chemistry that started it all back to the stage. The tour is more than a celebration of the past. It is a celebration of a timeless rhythm that connects generations.
