About ShitKid
ShitKid creates a blend of indie rock, raw punk, and pop, influenced by Green Day and Good Charlotte. The project always had a final destination. From the age of twelve, Åsa Söderqvist wanted to become a nurse. She enjoys routine, a “normal, sometimes boring life."
When she started making music as ShitKid in 2016, she gave herself five to seven years to become a rock star before training as a nurse. Those five years as ShitKid were a whirlwind, and she released material at a rapid pace. Debut EP recorded on a broken, shared computer in Gothenburg (where she moved after high school to start a feminist punk band), debut LP ‘Fish’, an album recorded in her bedroom and car called ‘This Is It’, and ‘[DETENTION]’, a wonderfully chaotic pop-punk record about alienation at high school.
She has performed at Roskilde, SXSW, Way Out West, and The Great Escape. Iggy Pop and Billie Joe Armstrong are fans. Bandcamp called her "the most peculiar musician in Sweden." And then, exactly on schedule, Söderqvist quit. But the universe had other plans: while Söderqvist was studying to become a nurse, new listeners explored the ShitKid discography. Her audience quietly grew larger, younger, and more international.
This year marks ten years since her first single was released. To celebrate, she is embarking on a world tour, with the European leg selling out in spring. She is also releasing two compilation albums, with the second ‘The Essential Vol. 2’ coming out in September. Five to seven years ultimately proved not enough.
