Vincent van Gogh drew his inspiration from the surroundings of the Oude Buisse heath. 

Writer and politician Henriette Roland Holst donated the estate to Natuurmonumenten in 1945. She described the place with the words "so lovely, peaceful and idyllically charming, that every person who comes there is touched by its silence, by joyful harmony." The heath consists of 200 hectares of park and stinzeng forests and estate forests with old avenues. All over the Oude Buisse heath, remnants of the turf history can be found.
