Prince Daddy & the Hyena

If you call your band Prince Daddy & the Hyena, you accept that chaos isn’t a chapter in your story, but its entire ethos. The band’s career has been built by going from breaking point to breaking point and picking themselves back up each time. A serious bus accident, bad LSD experiences and the loss of close friends and colleagues led the band to their new record: ‘Hotwire Trip Switch’.

Information

The album is a trip through punk, pop, indie, emo and garage rock. They return to their roots and sound more self-assured than ever. The album title comes from a line in the song ‘Crash Taylor’ and captures the chaotic, unstable and sometimes unsafe energy in which Prince Daddy & the Hyena thrives. Across the 12 tracks, the band’s drastically different sides emerge. ‘Big Box Store Heart’ is a twisted attempt at writing a love song, inspired by the loneliness of doing the grocery shopping without his partner. ‘24-03-04_Birthday_B4’ was written and finished in a single, mushroom-fuelled day that lead singer Kory calls his “best birthday ever”. ‘Hotwire Trip Switch’ does not try to escape the chaos that seems to follow Prince Daddy & the Hyena like a shadow. Instead, it embraces that chaos: the engine runs glowing red, they are pushed beyond their limits and somehow still charge forwards towards whatever comes next.
