With his many years of experience and infectious enthusiasm, Lex Wiersma has conducted numerous operas. His deep knowledge and love for the genre make him a captivating storyteller who knows how to bring music to life like no other. 

During his talk, Wiersma begins with the origins of opera and demonstrates how this rich art form has evolved over the centuries. After all, for almost every composer, opera is the ultimate dream: a fusion of music, drama, singing, and emotion, where everything comes together. 

The most beautiful arias
Using carefully selected fragments, visitors are guided through the most beautiful arias and most impressive choral pieces – from the earliest operas to works from later periods. Listening, experiencing, and understanding are central to this musical journey of discovery. 

This MusicSalon promises an inspiring and accessible music experience for both enthusiasts and newcomers to the world of opera. 

'Opera in all its facets' takes place twice:

  • Monday 15 June, 2.30–4.00 pm:  Lutheran Church, Veemarktstraat 11 
  • Thursday 18 June, 8.15–9.45 pm: ‘Het Gele Huis’, Haagse Markt 6 behind, Princenhage. 

Entrance from half an hour beforehand.
