MuziekSalon Spronk: Ode to Georg Philipp Telemann
Information
MuziekSalon Spronk pays tribute to Georg Philipp Telemann. A new season with a performance entirely dedicated to Georg Philipp Telemann. In “Telemann, Idol of the 18th Century”, visitors are transported to the heyday of Baroque music. Although Johann Sebastian Bach is often regarded today as the greatest Baroque composer, in their own time Telemann was the absolute Superstar, not only in Germany but throughout Europe. Star flautist Rogier de Pijper and Russian pianist Anna Ivanova form the musical heart of this afternoon / evening. Laughing, Rogier de Pijper makes a striking comparison: You could quite easily call Telemann the Frans Bauer of his day. He wrote highly accessible music that always sounded pleasing to the ear, he was extremely productive, and he knew exactly what the general public wanted to hear. Everyone loved him. Effortlessly, he combined French, Italian and Polish styles into a sound that was entirely his own. He was also one of the first to organise concerts for ordinary members of the public, rather than solely for the elite at court.
MuziekSalon Spronk offers an intimate setting in which the boundary between musicians and audience becomes blurred. De Pijper and Ivanova bring the repertoire to life at the highest level and take listeners on a historical voyage of discovery. Between the dynamic flute passages and colourful piano playing, stories and anecdotes are shared about the turbulent life and enormous star status of the 18th-century idol Telemann.
