Meet the Makers: Stacii Samidin & Bianca Pilet

The body as canvas. For One love, many faces, Bianca Pilet sought out people from Breda who wear their connection to the city and the church on their skin. A tattoo as a declaration of love, permanent, and also quite painful. That directness struck her. Bianca sought them out. She photographed some of them at home. Others in the church, where bodies and architecture met in a space that has borne witness for centuries to what touches people most deeply.

Beyond the stereotype. For the Grote Kerk Breda, Stacii Samidin photographs a number of Breda’s many subcultures during everyday moments and special events. These might be events known far beyond the city, or traditions that not everyone is aware of: NAC supporters preparing for a match, the Moluccan community celebrating Hari Proklamasi RMS, punks or hard rockers at a concert, or the Polish community at the Polish Military Cemetery of Honour. In this way, Stacii moves beyond the stereotype and sketches a blueprint that encourages visitors to look at the city’s residents differently.
