Lecture: Recognise Your Patterns: Break the Cycle

In this accessible talk, you’ll explore pattern recognition from a psychological and reflective perspective.

Information

Many people notice that they repeatedly get stuck in certain areas. Sometimes you know that you would like to respond or act differently, but still cannot break the cycle. This can become apparent in difficulty setting boundaries, putting yourself last, constantly adapting, withdrawing, worrying, remaining stuck in the same responses or feeling that you have little influence over what happens.

Afterwards, you will have a better understanding of:

  • why it can sometimes be difficult to break a cycle or make a lasting change

  • what a pattern is and how you can recognise it

  • how behaviour, responses and choices can form and maintain a pattern

  • how patterns play out in contact with others and can influence recurring dynamics

  • which feelings, needs or beliefs may underlie a pattern

  • how recognising patterns can help you better understand what you need in order to respond differently.
