Lecture: Het Grote Zwijgen

On 6 May, exactly 79 years after the arrest of NSB leader Anton Mussert, Manon Wilbrink and Ineke Breukers reflect on the lasting impact of the NSB. In a joint lecture, they share personal stories and historical insights about how the choices made back then continue to affect generations later.

Information

On 6 May 1945, a day after the German capitulation, the NSB was disbanded and its leader Anton Mussert was arrested. His death sentence was carried out on 7 May 1946. Exactly 79 years later, Manon Wilbrink and Ineke Breukers will give a joint lecture about the influence of the NSB: not only during the war years but also on the lives of fellow countrymen, even those born after the war.

Manon Wilbrink is a historian, former history teacher at the OLV in Breda, and a lecturer at the PostSchool Breda. She is researching Carolus Huygen, Secretary-General of the NSB. Her lecture is a concise combination of her research findings and her personal experiences with the Huygen family.

Ineke Breukers is a first and second-generation descendant of ancestors who were wrongdoers during the war. She will present a narrative about her search for her family's problematic past and the experiences of a girl growing up with flawed (grand)parents in a small rural community.
