Until the late 18th century, death penalties were still handed out in Breda, often in brutal ways. Did these convicts receive a fair trial, were they aware of their situation, or were they swept through the legal machinery? Artist Bart Pols investigated this for De Maand Van De Geschiedenis under the theme 'Echt Nep' and created an interactive art route based on the game Fox Hunt. Let yourself be taken back in time and experience the legal process of the 18th century in Breda!
<p><br></p>Bart is collaborating with Ivo Leenders on this project. He is a lawyer at VOI Advocaten and part of Lawcity Breda, an initiative by a group of Breda lawyers aimed at sparking inspiring, unique events focused on the talent development of young people. Bart Pols' work consists of drawings, collages, paintings, sculptures, and performances that centre on the human condition. From an autobiographical starting point, he tries to translate his fascination with various apparent contradictions into imagery. The work often contains a specific definition of humour, aiming at the seemingly trivial joke that conceals the deepest seriousness behind it.
This project is part of KOPlopers. KOP connects artists with experts outside their field. Together, they develop an experience for the public, based on the expert's knowledge. The KOPlopers project will be carried out twice in 2024. Two of these experiences will be organised during the Breda Month of History, with the theme “Real Fake” at its core.
