The landscape of the Markdal is a typical river valley landscape, with originally meandering stream with marshy banks. At various locations along the banks, there were higher sand mounds, known as "donken". In the 1960s and 1970s, parts of the stream were channelised to allow for faster water drainage. This was beneficial for agriculture, but not for nature.At the beginning of the 21st century, it was decided to restore the natural winding course of the Bovenmark. During the walk, you will see the results of the natural restoration. The seepage water that comes up is rich in lime and iron, contributing to a unique plant growth. A spring walk through this wet natural gem is a true pleasure, but remember to wear boots or waterproof shoes.If you want to join the walk on Monday morning, 20th May, you must register in advance at website. After that, you will receive a confirmation via email with the starting location.
