About the Gilzewouwerbeek
The stream rises to the west of Gilze. It used to have a natural, meandering course, but was largely straightened in the 1960s for agricultural purposes. Following redevelopment, a winding stream now once again flows through a nature reserve covering more than 17 hectares. The area is home to special plant and animal species, particularly insects and birds.

The redevelopment served as nature compensation and water storage. An ecological link zone was also created and a fish pass was installed. Seven ponds lie in the stream valley near Bavel, intended as breeding waters for salamanders, frogs and toads. The European tree frog is also found here.

Practical information
Some paths may be muddy; it is advisable to wear waterproof shoes. You can register up to and including the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the starting point. The walk starts at 13:30 and lasts until approximately 15:00 / 15:30.
