The Gilzewouwerbeek was once a meandering stream, then became a straight, flowing drainage ditch between the fields, but has regained its natural course since 2012. The nature reserve of 17 hectares was established in collaboration with Staatsbosbeheer, Waterschap Brabantse Delta, and the Province of North Brabant.
 In the area, breeding ponds have been dug and sandy paths laid out for walking. In three places, the stream is shallow enough to walk through (with wellingtons on). The higher areas have been planted with native, berry-bearing shrubs. The lower parts are mowed annually to prevent overgrowth. 
An abundant vegetation has now developed. Where many flowers bloom, insects also feel at home. This is a true paradise for dragonflies. Where insects are, birds can feed. They find shelter in the shrubby areas and reed beds. For several years, the stork has been returning to its nest, and the kestrel is also raising its young here.
Thanks to an ecological corridor, the common tree frog has also found its way into this area. Based on the population growth, we can confirm that it is happy here. Hopefully, the weather will be nice, as this little frog loves to enjoy the sun.
Because the area can be very swampy, it is advisable to wear waterproof shoes. Covering clothing is recommended due to mosquitoes and ticks.

Registration is possible up to the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the departure point.
 The walk starts at 13:30 and lasts until approximately 15:30.
