The Gilzewouwerbeek meanders through the landscape as it used to do after the reorganisation about ten years ago, when the straight drainage ditch got its winding course back. In the area, ponds for toads have been dug and sand paths have been laid out for walking. The creek is shallow in three spots, allowing people (wearing wellies) to walk through it.A rich vegetation has since developed. Where flowers bloom, insects also feel at home. This is a paradise for dragonflies. Where insects are present, birds can find food. They seek shelter in shrubs and reed beds. For several years now, the stork has been returning to its nest and the kestrel has been raising its young there as well.Thanks to an ecological corridor, the tree frog has also found its way to this area. He is enjoying it here, as their numbers are steadily increasing. In good weather, this little frog likes to sunbathe, giving us more chances to see it.Since the area can be very marshy, it is advisable to wear waterproof shoes.
