IVN family walks: mushroom spotting at Boswachterij Dorst

On Sunday 18 October, the whole family can join the search for mushrooms with the nature guides from IVN Mark & Donge. You can choose between the morning or afternoon walk.

Information

Fungi are marvellous things: they can suddenly appear, but disappear just as quickly. That is why people associated them with witchcraft for a very long time. More than five thousand species of fungi occur in the Netherlands. The fly agaric, that familiar red one with white spots, has a cap and a stem, but not all of them do. Some species grow as discs on a tree, while others look like a football. You may come across them in the shape of a cup, a bone or a little rod. Some mushrooms are cream-coloured, but there are also yellow, purple, green and orange species. The parasol mushroom is very large, but it is also fun to find the really tiny ones. The variety of forms they take is enormous, and that is what makes searching for them so fascinating.

Whether you will see many species during the walk at Boswachterij Dorst will partly depend on the weather. Mushrooms like moisture, but cannot withstand frost. Hopefully, pig’s ears will spring from the ground or dead man’s fingers will emerge from the wood. In any case, it will be an enjoyable search, which children in particular can have great fun with.

Before and after the walk, you can visit the IVN stall, where you will find all kinds of things that nature has to offer. You can also learn more about hedgehogs here.

Registration is possible up to and including the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the meeting point. The morning walk starts at 10:00 and lasts until approximately 11:30 / 12:00. The afternoon walk starts at 13:30 and lasts until approximately 15:00 / 15:30. More information and the registration form can be found on the IVN Mark & Donge website under Activities.
