IVN cycling tour through Noordrand Midden

This nature reserve lies to the north of Etten-Leur and Prinsenbeek. Work is under way in the area to improve water retention and create new nature areas. The area will become part of the Brabant Nature Network. During the cycle ride, participants will see how nature is developing here. The route passes through the Zwartenbergse Polder, Strijpen/De Berk and Kelsdonk/Zwemlaken, among other places. The highlight is a visit to Weimeren polder. A large reed marsh is developing here. The area is increasingly beginning to resemble a small Biesbosch. Many special animals already live in Weimeren. The bittern has been heard there, and the white-tailed eagle is also seen regularly. Perhaps the beaver has already arrived too. Birds such as the lapwing, little ringed plover, bluethroat and avocet breed in the area. Participants can watch many birds from a bird hide. So do bring binoculars. Butterflies and dragonflies are also increasingly making themselves at home in Noordrand Midden. Queen-of-Spain fritillaries, keeled skimmers and southern hawkers have been spotted, for example.

The cycle ride starts from three locations:

Zevenbergen, town centre: route of approximately 25 kilometres

Etten-Leur, Turfvaart area: route of approximately 20 kilometres

Prinsenbeek, Elsakker area: route of approximately 15 kilometres

A maximum of 15 people can take part from each starting location. This means there is room for 45 participants in total. Participants will receive the exact starting location after registering. Registration is required and can be completed via the IVN Dintel- en Marklanden website. Apart from the visit to the bird hide, which is approximately 50 metres away, the route is also suitable for a mobility scooter.
