Across two films, we follow Charles de Gaulle: from his flight to London and his first call to resistance through to the continuing struggle for a free France. Between the two films, you can enjoy a delicious lunch. A complete afternoon of film and conversation for €35.

June 1940. France capitulates and signs the armistice with Germany. While the country surrenders, one man refuses to accept defeat: General Charles de Gaulle. Without an army, without military support and with virtually no hope, he flees to London. There, he begins his struggle for a free France and for a Europe that will not submit to the power of Nazi Germany. In De Gaulle: Résistance, the first part of director Antonin Baudry’s epic two-part film, we follow the first crucial moments of de Gaulle’s struggle and his decision to shape the resistance from London. In De Gaulle: Liberté, the second and concluding part, his story continues. De Gaulle faces new political and personal challenges as the struggle for the future of France and Europe continues. The two-part film brings together an impressive French-British cast, including Simon Abkarian as Charles de Gaulle, Simon Russell Beale as Winston Churchill and Mathieu Kassovitz as Admiral Darlan.
