Film Course ‘Alles over Eva’

Which archetypal images of women are presented to us at the cinema? And how are they being challenged (today)? Films are full of hidden social messages. They shape our ideas about love, motherhood, friendship, work and power. Why do we so often see female ambition as threatening? Why does the angry woman so quickly become a monster? And why do certain archetypes keep returning? Over five Tuesday evenings, together with Floortje Smit, film critic at de Volkskrant, we’ll delve into the world of girls, monsters, mothers, mistresses and women in power.
The five themes:

- MOTHERS on Tuesday 6 October, On motherhood, sacrifice and the rise of the angry mother.

- WOMEN IN POWER on Tuesday 20 October, On female ambition, work and the price of success.

- GIRLS & MONSTERS on Tuesday 3 November, On teenage friendship, body horror and the changing female body.

- MENOPAUSE on Tuesday 24 November, On ageing and invisibility.

- MISTRESSES on Tuesday 8 December, On love, relationships and women as both objects and subjects of desire.

The course takes place over five Tuesday evenings, with doors opening at 19:00, starting at 19:30, and lasting approximately 90 minutes.
