Festival Strijdbare Vrouwen

Who determines the story? During Festival Strijdbare Vrouwen, Filmhuis Botanique Breda focuses on International Women's Day and explores how women's stories change the conversation in film, culture, politics, and society.

Expect an inspiring weekend with films and documentaries, talks and debates, live music, a Fado Lounge and plenty of room for meeting during brunch and dinner - all in a familiar Filmhuis atmosphere.

Saturday March 7:

  • 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Opening by Attje Kuiken
  • 11:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.: Documentary: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed
  • 11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.: Documentary: Mediha
  • 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Power Lunch, with performance by Bocca Bella
  • 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Story Walk & The Essential. Meet and listen to extraordinary stories from young women about the essence of their lives. Video Art by Martin & Inge Riebeek
  • 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Dolle Mina: Short film “Miss '70” by St. Joost students from 1970 about one of the first actions. Followed by a conversation with Dolle Mina Marlotte Molenaar
  • 4:00–5:30 p.m.: Filmhuis Draait Door. Grietje Braaksma in conversation with Lale Gül about her latest book ‘Ik ben vrij’ (I am free)
  • 5:30–6:15 p.m.: Documentary Lale Gül ‘Ik leef mijn eigen leven’ (I live my own life)
  • 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Film: C’è Ancora Domani
  • 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wo-men's Dinner
  • 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.: Performance by De Linda's
  • 6:45 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.: Film: Wuthering Heights, Where the Wind Comes From, Hamnet, Barbie

Sunday March 8:

  • 10:30–11:30 a.m.: Lecture by Victoria Koblenko
  • 12:00–1:30 p.m.: Ladies’ Brunch with Storytelling by Maggy Groeizaam
  • 1:30–4:00 p.m.: Film: C’è Ancora Domani and Frida
  • 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.: Debate: Militant Women 
     - Documentary ‘Not Cool’
     - How do women in the Breda city council advocate for women? With  moderator Carla van Loon
  •  3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.:  Filmhuis Draait Door. In conversation with the first female lieutenant general Elanor Boekholt-O’Sullivan about diversity in the armed forces and her book Gewapend met gevoel (Armed with Emotion). Elanor will receive the Aletta Jacobs Prize on March 6.
  • 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Film: Hidden Figures (film chosen by Elanor Boekholt)
  • 4:00–6:00 p.m.: Film: Hamnet
  • 4:30–6:30 p.m.: Fado Lounge. Portuguese tapas, Fado by Cathelijne Bach
  • 6:45–9:00 p.m.: Film: Wuthering Heights, Little Women
