Information

In April, Linda Moes and Bas Linssen exhibit at the Princenhaag Museum. The theme of the exhibition is: 'about the undercurrent'.

Linda Moes (1971, lives and works in Breda):

“I surrender to not knowing.”

In my paintings, I explore the space between inner world and landscape. Fascinated by the cycle of life, I continue to marvel at the interconnectedness of everything. Human behaviour also serves as a source of inspiration. What do we show and what do we hide? We often camouflage our vulnerability to conceal reality. But what is reality?

Layer over layer, an image emerges where previous stories remain perceivable. Often suggestive, with a melancholic undertone, the paint seeks form. Fine and coarse brushstrokes alternate, nails scratch into the underlayer, fingers press thick paint into shape. Playfully, I explore what painting can be, constantly seeking a balance between order and chaos, until the story presents itself or a feeling is conveyed.

Bas Linssen (1964, lives and works in Breda):

“Working with cardboard and paper.”

My work is about memories I have and the longing for what once was. Additionally, my work is influenced by nature and objects/materials I find that evoke a response in me. Paper is almost always the basis of my work. The fragility and versatility characteristic of this material align well with what I want to express.

I condense my memories into drawings and paintings, where, like in a film, multiple fragments overlay each other. It’s a process of drawing, scratching, removing, sanding, and fiddling until I have captured my memory as clearly as possible. What emerges is for me like a relic, whose beauty brings me back in time and also provides comfort.
