Dressed Like Boys at MEZZ Breda

It can happen that quickly! Two years ago, Dressed Like Boys were still playing the Small Hall at MEZZ during Ik Zie U Graag. Last year, the band tore up the main stage. After a year full of highlights, in which Belgian singer-songwriter Jelle Denturck’s project won over pretty much everyone’s hearts, the countdown to Dressed Like Boys’ new album has now begun.

Information

Since the release of the debut album in August 2025, things have moved fast for Dressed Like Boys. Very fast! Songs such as ‘Lies’, ‘Pinnacles’, ‘Jaouad’ and ‘Stonewall Riots Forever’ were embraced by audiences and press alike. This was followed by no fewer than six MIA nominations, and he also took home the MIA awards for Songwriter and Artwork. He then travelled across Europe for memorable shows at Rock Werchter, Best Kept Secret and two sold-out nights at OLT Rivierenhof in Antwerp.

After such an intense year, you might need to take a moment to catch your breath. But not Jelle. Over the past two years, Denturck has been working on songs for the new album ‘And Then I Woke Up’, which will be released in spring 2027. A second chapter in the story that began with the debut. Identity remains a central theme, but now serves as a starting point for something universal: the feeling of being under attack, misunderstood or excluded. Freedom, or the lack of it, also runs like a red thread through the record, inspired by Buddhism and Taoism, which Denturck immersed himself in while writing. Ultimately, the album is about spiritual (self-)liberation: awakening, and sometimes drifting off again.
