Dance performance: ROOM IN OUR HOUSE
Information
A danced manifesto for peace with Indigenous artists from North America Two men meet. Their strength lies within their bodies. Both dancers live in the here and now. At the same time, they are connected by a complex colonial history. One is the child of survivors; the other, the heir of oppressors. Two worlds colliding. Is peace possible? ROOM IN OUR HOUSE offers a boundary-pushing countervoice in this time of crises. Inspired by the centuries-old peace treaty between the Netherlands and the Haudenosaunee, the NBP team immersed itself in their community in the United States. A world of democracy, equality and gentleness.
Directed by inspirational speaker Michelle Schenandoah (Oneida/Haudensaunee) and choreographer/theatre-maker Nicole Beutler (Dutch-German), with text by Indigenous writer and activist Ty Defoe, ROOM IN OUR HOUSE invites the audience to explore everyone’s responsibility in peacemaking. What makes this performance unique is that it is an equal co-creation between Indigenous Haudenosaunee, North American and Dutch/European makers. Almost every creative role is shared by two people, promoting equal collaboration at every level. ROOM IN OUR HOUSE contains spoken English.
