Mary has been sung about, portrayed and admired throughout the centuries. As the Holy Mother of God and the pure Virgin, but also as a young woman and as a loving and grieving mother. Her story touches on something universal: joy and sorrow, love and loss, hope and consolation, connection and farewell. In this special concert, Vrouwenkamerkoor CEO takes you on a journey through Mary’s many faces. A musical journey in which ancient traditions and contemporary sounds meet.

The concert begins with Rihards Dubra’s mass: hypnotic, luminous and filled with joy and reconciliation. You will then hear MacIntyre’s tranquil, meditative soundscapes and the light-footed warmth of Bebbington and Quartel. Poulenc gives voice to the urgent need for help and relief from unbearable suffering. Amsterdam composer Jeroen Spitteler weaves a delicate web of voices, with transparent, almost medieval harmonies.
