Bredase Opera: Verdi's Requiem
Information
Although Verdi's Requiem is officially a requiem mass, this music above all bears the mark of a born opera composer. Bredase Opera therefore approaches this masterpiece not as a liturgical work, but as what it essentially is: a grand and enthralling musical drama. Love, fear, hope, despair, consolation and ecstasy follow one another in an emotional journey that holds the listener in its grip from the first note to the last.
From the terrifying Dies Irae with its thunderous outbursts of sound to the moving intimacy of the Lacrimosa: Verdi transforms the centuries-old Latin text into a story full of human passion and expression. It is music that is not merely sung, but experienced.
In the wonderful acoustics and atmosphere of the Grote Kerk, this operatic power comes fully into its own. Bredase Opera invites you to experience this monumental work as Verdi himself would have wished: with the dramatic intensity, lyrical beauty and enthralling emotion of his greatest operas.
Overall musical direction: Lex Wiersma. Soloists: Louise Guenter (soprano), Bori Soós (alto), Eric Reddet (tenor) and Nanco de Vries (bass). Orchestra: Zuid-Nederlands Begeleidingsorkest. With the participation of Tilburgse Opera and Projectkoor Brabant.
