BredaPhoto: Reading with Aline Papenheim

In the reading of 'In the Forest Behind My Father’s House', artist Aline Papenheim takes you to the German village where they grew up. Through photography, personal stories and letters, Papenheim explores themes such as identity, diversity and belonging.

Information

In the photographic project In the Forest Behind My Father’s House, Aline Papenheim returns to the rural German village where they grew up. As the forests change due to climate change and new life emerges, Papenheim explores the similarities between changes in nature and social structures.

During this 30-minute session, Papenheim shares photographs, personal experiences and special letters, including letters addressed to a deer, a hunter and their father. The project shows how traditions and ideas about what is ‘normal’ influence our identity and our sense of belonging.

After the presentation, there will be an opportunity to discuss diversity, connection and the places we call home together.
