Annie Taylor at Poppodium Phoenix
Information
Doing your own thing, even when it isn’t the easiest route. That’s what Annie Taylor are all about, and they’re bringing it to Poppodium Phoenix on Saturday 27 March 2027. The name is no coincidence. In 1901, Annie Edson Taylor, an unconventional teacher from the United States, became the first person ever to plunge over Niagara Falls in a wooden barrel. More than a century later, a Swiss band bears her name, and the same stubborn independence runs through every note they play. What began in a bar in the Swiss mountains after a day of snowboarding grew into a live band you have to see. They’ve played SXSW and Levitation Festival in Austin, The Great Escape in Brighton and Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. Their debut, 'Sweet Mortality', brought them international recognition. With their third album, 'Out of Scale', released via the indie label Clouds Hill, they’re refining their sound once again. The songs are about friendship and love, euphoria and doubt. Distorted guitars and grunge full of fury alternate with repetitive psychedelia and almost silent, restrained moments. Somewhere between Courtney Barnett and Wet Leg. With support.
