Pick-your-own gardens in and around Breda

A tasty day out around Breda! There are several pick-your-own gardens around Breda for foraging. We highlight a number of pick-your-own gardens and beautiful walking routes.

Note: pick and gather with respect, love, and common sense. Not along busy roads and places where pesticides are sprayed. Always leave some behind, hang or grow for people and animals who come after you. Educate yourself about what is edible and what is not. With a bit of research on the internet, you'll go a long way. When in doubt: leave it be!

Check the opening hours of the pick-your-own garden beforehand. And not every pick-your-own garden offers something in every season.

    Picking route Princenhage

A 'delightful' walk through parklands and streets in Princenhage. The route is marked with stickers on (lamp) posts and wooden poles with an arrow. The route is best started from the Haagsemarkt. Especially for children, you can do a treasure hunt or a Colouring and Exploring Tour during the walk.

Length: the first part of the route is already completed. Eventually, the route will be 3.5 km long.
Harvest time: in winter everything is bare, but in spring everything greens up. In summer and autumn, you can pick the fruit.

    Picking route Etten-Leur

In Etten-Leur, the various existing and new 'Pluk initiatives have joined forces': Plukroute Etten-Leur. Together, they aim to let residents and especially schoolchildren taste and smell all the edible green in Etten-Leur. Bringing nature a little closer, so everyone can enjoy the blossoms, the growing of fruit, and the harvest. They organise activities for young and old, and new 'Pluk' initiatives are still being added.

    Plukweide Breda

On the edge of the Mark Valley, you'll find a Pop-up U-pick meadow where you can craft a unique wildflower bouquet! Bring scissors and a basket, and immerse yourself in the flower meadow. When the flowers are in bloom, picking opportunities will be announced on the website. In the meadow, you'll find a sign with a QR code, where you can pay using a pay what you want principle for your bunch of flowers. Fun, isn’t it?!

    Hank Harvest Route

For this route, follow the Plukroute signs. This way, you will naturally discover where there are tasty things to harvest.

When thinking of Hank, one thinks of nature. The centuries-old bond between the village and nature is continued with the Plukroute: nut and fruit trees, a herb garden, and a variety of wildflowers brighten up the street scene. The route offers healthy, local, and pesticide-free food, full of vitamins and minerals. And it's conveniently close by!

Length: walking route of 0.3 km from the starting point at the entrance of ‘t Uivernest, on Kerkstraat in Hank
    Harvest season: all year round
