Film: Minding The Gap

The skatepark is full of energy. Skaters whiz past, graffiti appears on the ramps, music echoes across the site and between the obstacles, people laugh, dance, and play basketball. In this dynamic world, more is central than impressive tricks and spectacular jumps. Choreographer Mette Ingvartsen focuses on a community driven by perseverance, creativity, and the will to push further and further. Through falling and getting up, boundaries are pushed, both individually and collectively.
The performance finds its inspiration in the rich skate culture, a culture full of contrasts. According to legend, skateboarding was born when surfers in Los Angeles sought refuge on the asphalt during a period of low waves. Since then, streets, squares, and obstacles have become a playground where movement, freedom, and imagination come together.
However, that seemingly effortless flow of a skater does not happen by itself. Behind every smooth movement are hours of practice, repetition, and trying again. It is precisely this combination of freedom and discipline that makes skateboarding so fascinating. It is both a way of life and an Olympic sport, a form of self-expression and a global commercial phenomenon.
This special performance will be held on 11 and 12 July 2026 at the Chassé Theater. There is even more to discover around the show. With films, workshops, music, and other activities, the program offers an in-depth look into the versatile skate culture and the people who shape it.
