Nature walk at Klokkenberg estate | Gilde De Baronie

De Klokkenberg was originally a sanatorium and is now a unique ‘residential area’ overlooking the Markdal and Mastbos. The forests were laid out by 16th-century city barons and consist of long avenues, heaths, and ponds. It has a long history of princes, poachers, and smugglers. Since 1899, it has been managed by Staatsbosbeheer. The annual visitor numbers of nearly 2 million create contrasts between management and recreation.
